Rev Billy Wetewea

My name is WETEWEA Billy and I’m from the archipelago of Kanaky, well known under its discovery name given by the famous Captain James Cook, New Caledonia. I am an ordained minister of the Protestant Church of Kanaky New Caledonia. I’m here at the Pacific Theological College for the Bachelor Divinity Program, and this is my final year. I am the only student from my country and my church, and the only French speaker student this year. Despite these details, I never felt lonely in such inspiring place like PTC. The Kenu of my life brought me two years ago in this unique and mysterious place of PTC. "Mystery", that was my first feeling when I arrived first in this place. Something sacred, taboo, imbued this place. Sounds are different. The wind sings differently in the foliage of the trees. The songs of the night are different from home but the sky and its dress of stars dance the same dance as ours. People talk differently. They speak English, and their own dialects. It is wonderful to hear, see, and experience such diversity. I feel blessed to be part of this wonderful community here at PTC, composed by people from almost all of our Islands countries in our region and overseas as well. Such a richness can hardly be found elsewhere.
